Cataract Surgery: Introducing LASER Cataract Surgery

One of the commonest causes of deterioration in vision with age is cataract formation.  A cataract occurs when the lens inside the eye becomes cloudy.   Cataracts cause blurry vision for both distance and near tasks.   Common symptoms are glare, sensitivity to light, poor night vision, and difficulty reading, sewing and crafting. Dr. Michelle Akler, an experienced ophthalmologist practicing in Dearborn, Michigan, is pleased to provide the latest techniques in cataract evaluation and surgery.

Dr. Michelle Akler is pleased to be among the first ophthalmologists in Southeast Michigan to utilize Bladeless LASER cataract surgery in her practice.  The LenSx laser uses cutting-edge technology to capture real-time high resolution digital images of the eye.  These images are used to plan and perform your cataract surgery to exacting specifications.  This sophisticated technique provides the greatest level of safety and predictability available today.  By combining the most advanced techniques with our personalized approach, Akler Eye Center provides a truly premium cataract surgery experience.

Cataract surgery is a safe, painless procedure that corrects the cloudy vision.  Done in an outpatient surgery center, the cataract is removed through a tiny incision that does not require stitches and replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL) which focuses the light on the back of the eye.

On arrival at the outpatient surgery facility many eyedrops are placed in the eye to sterilize and numb the eye and to dilate the pupil.  Intravenous sedation is used to ensure you are relaxed and comfortable during the procedure.  Eyedrops are used afterwards to promote healing and prevent infection.  Most patients return to normal activities the day following the procedure.

There are a number of different intraocular lens (IOL) options available to patients.  Standard IOL’s correct the distance vision, but reading glasses are still necessary. Multifocal implants such as the Crystalens® provide more range of vision from distance to near, reducing dependency on reading glasses postoperatively. If astigmatism is present,  a toric lOL will best correct the distance vision.

At the Akler Eye Center, we tailor your cataract surgery to your lifestyle and unique visual needs.  Our goal is to give you the best possible visual result based on your specific needs and desires.
