Dr. Michelle Akler is a board certified ophthalmologist with over 17 years of experience. Dr. Akler has been proudly providing ophthalmic care to the Dearborn and Downriver, and East Side communities for the past 13 years. Born and raised in Canada Dr. Akler attended the University of Toronto Medical School where she graduated with top honors. Her ophthalmology residency was completed at the University of Colorado in Denver where she was known as the resident with “golden hands”. Dr. Akler has performed over 10,000 LASIK procedures and over 5,000 cataract surgeries with extraordinary results. She was honored as a Laservision® Top 5 LASIK surgeon in the USA. She was awarded the Patients’ Choice Award 2011-2013 and Compassionate Doctor Recognition 2011-2013 by Vitals℠ a leading physician review site.
Dr. Akler is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery. She actively participates in the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and the local chapter of the Women in Ophthalmology.
When she is taking a break from her professional responsibilities, Dr. Michelle Akler likes to spend time with her husband, Jonathon State MD and their two sons. On weekends she can be found at local hockey arenas and baseball fields taking in her sons’ games.
Her hobbies include downhill skiing, running, cooking, and reading.
Dr. Akler is delighted to be practicing in Dearborn, Michigan and Sterling Heights, Michigan. She is on staff at the Dearborn Surgery Center, Oakwood Main Hospital in Dearborn, Oakwood Southshore Hospital in Trenton, and at the Michigan Outpatient Surgery Center in Fraser.
